Wooden pattern making cubes

When we first met Minotaur’s Eiichi Izumi in 2005, we talked about the idea of creating a 3D object which would make part of a package with a T-Shirt for his company. We liked the idea of a kind of puzzle, or something which can make many shapes and patterns, inspired by the Minotaur’s labyrinth. We have now made several sets of these cubes, each set consisting of 16 pieces which can make a great number of patterns. The cubes are laser cut in Kyushu by a wooden toy maker, using Japanese Maple & White Ash.

2005年にMinotaurの泉さんに初めてお会いした時、Tシャツを作る事になったのですが、それと一緒に何かセットで3Dの物を作ろうというアイデアを話し合いました。私達は、Minotaurのラビリンスからヒントを得て、パズルか何かのように、いろんな柄や形を作りだせる物がいいのではと考えました。そうして出来上がったいくつかの木のキューブセットがあります。16ピースで1セット。この1セットで相当数のパターンを作る事が出来ます。木のキューブはジャパニーズメープルとホワイトアッシュを使用し、九州にある木のおもちゃ会社でレーザーカットされました。
